Alive In July
I went for a walk this morning at five
and counted the blessings of being alive,
including the infinite blue of the sky
that’s hazy with heat in the month of July.
The sun on the dew on the grass in the field…
I chance on the spot where a fawn is concealed.
I hear the doe blow from the veil of the trees,
she catches a hint of my scent on the breeze.
A skunk and her babies style fashion on green.
A ground hog takes cover the moment he’s seen.
The rabbits and chipmunks and squirrels entertain
the folks who are patiently healing their brain.
Carrots and taters grow ripe in the ground....
