Young!!
We were but young when we left innocent to what was to come
To don camouflage and hold a gun yet only 16 and wanting our mums
For 11 months we went from boy to man being shouted at
Running everywhere as fast as we can
The day came so fast put on a plane to land afar
Arriving to dark, rain and sorrow not yet finding out our fate and horror
We trained for months not knowing yet where we flew
To the horrors that awaited us to hostilities new
We landed in the land of Bobby Sands the murdering bastards with blood on their hands
We were flew into a horrible place not far from the border not knowing our place
The 2nd night we did get a shock when bullets flew like falling rocks
Tracer flew from across the border 'contact' over the radio came across the order
We stood for a moment and we did return hundreds of shots
Filled with tracer our guns did return glowing barrels pistol grip burn
Mum I need you I cry as I want to return
The days they did go our nerves on edge waiting that day we all dread
The tiredness the stress our heads a mess
A dull in December that noise did come my brother a soldier covered in blood
That shot from a van it did come a Barrett .50 the murderer's gun
My brother a son taken far to young murdered by terrorist scum
Our heads in tatters what had we done wrong?
We were still to young to be carrying guns
We stayed on this land 6 months to long fearing our lives from the terrorist gun
Our heads in a trance from what had gone on
Devastated for our brother gone nobody cared we just soldiered on
The day came when we left this land heads a mess guns in hand
The years did fly but the memories still vivid my head broke expecting to live
As I sit here with eyes full of tears thinking of all those horrific years
I think of my brother his life was taken
All the memories a live and not mistaken
That day in December when my brother was taken
Now an old man with memories past I sit here thinking of those days until my last
For my brothers and sisters still out there not gone your time is not over please stay strong
Head up shoulders back for us and our families go forward soldier on
We were young but still need our mum.
