Broken Dream
In the moments between the memories,
Between each heaving breath,
I'm left solemn in the epiphany,
That there's always something left.
This life is such a mystery,
And with each new passing day,
We create so much history,
two hundred years just faded away.
We drove on, it feels, along the seam,
Just to make it through the day.
It's crazy how this came to be,
As if there could be no other way.
A broken dream lay dying, at our feet,
Too far to reach, but too close, not to stare,
You watch on, on repeat, in disbelief,
As our country falls into disrepair.
