Saint Demeter
In the church at Elefsis,
They still honor Demeter,
Albeit as a saint,
So as not to sin
against the one true God.
'Oh Mother of grain,'
The women pray,
'The earth anticipates spring,
The return of your daughter,
Kora,
From the Underworld.
Shed not bitter tears,
But tears of joy,
For mother and daughter
will be reunited at last.'
