Right Before You Die
Flash,. The nerves jolt my body, trembling as I slip into REM. My breath starts to become deep yet shallow as my consciousness starts to dim. Cold and hot my body soon to sweat, I'm about to have the nightmare I'll never forget. Dark hallways extend into the infinite, with rooms I search for you. Heart pounding in my chest, my nightmare makes its debut. Tossing and turning I return to the terror, room after room your nowhere to be found, eventually I follow steps I found on the ground. Thinking I was getting closer, that just a little more and Id find you waiting, and your presence would be gratifying and elating. The tracks are my own, how could this ever be? How did I get to the darkest ends of infinity? I see a light ahead I try not to panic, my pace quickens and my steps become manic. Something stops me. For some reason I freeze just feet from the door, and I heard the most haunting sound, that sent shivers and shook me to my very core. It was your voice but this time it lacked the tone of sweet, this time empty and hollow, your presence now effete. Without another thought I go through still dark but I hear something near, in this kind of darkness I'll only find my deepest fear. Heavy is the room. I found you but why the way I did? All this time I searched for you, you hid? Here with him doing this? Does my heart mean that much to you? Emotional meltdown as I ask myself if somehow I already knew. But your mad as if the blame was mine, yelling for me to just get out, that all I ever do is whine. The pressure from the tears build. I feel them falling but my cheeks remain dry, that’s when I woke up and remember they say you always wake up right before you die.
