This side of my skin is blemished and rough
It is littered with scars and cuts of my own doing
Each one telling a different story

This side of my skin is familiar
Familiar because I see it glaring at me
Every single time I stand bare in the shower

This side of my skin is unbearable
It’s the side that I keep hidden
It’s the side I sometimes wish I could erase

This side of my skin is a map
It has the curve of my nail imprinted in it
My desperation for relief imprinted in it

This side of my skin is damaged
It’s the side that I have broken and bruised
Just like the world did me
