Autumns Gold
#WritcoPoemPrompt119

The long dim shadows,
Of surrounding trees,
The hooting sound of an owl,
With enchanting whispers of the breeze,
Through the brush a distant howl.

The eve grew thick in nightly sounds,
A melody of dusk,
I paced the still and silent grounds,
The sounds in windy gusts.

My soul was filled with loving joy,
To touch the falling leaves,
Feeling like a little boy,
It put my heart at ease.

The western autumn wind, it came,
It laid upon the land,
Creatures of the night, unchained,
Their fanfare, whole and grand.

From chirping of the midnight tune,
Along the dusty path,
To sounds of Edans song of June,
Novembers epitaph.

I made it through,
The dusky dew,
To the over arching pass,
Across the way,
My eyes did pay,
To one more site at last.

A site of golden leaves they shined,
Under the starlit sky,
From red to gold,
From new to old,
Now captured in my eye.

Returning home and in my room,
Our time now come and gone,
I now begin my slumber soon,
To face the coming dawn.

The never forgotten acre wood,
A site now to behold,
Will be within my mind for good,
In winters time of old.
