The Day You Left
#MothersDayPoem
The fragrance of my childhood hides in the folds of your embrace,
There are memories of so much love and a comfort that will never be replaced.
Forever seeking the safety that I one time knew,
But there will never be another, no one will ever be you.
I try so hard now, just to picture your face,
Wishing to go back there, back in that special place.
The place where I knew what love was and what happiness could be,
The place where only you were, and your only concern was me.
Where you always told me just how much I meant,
And all the time we spent together was always time well spent.
I'll never forget the tea parties and all the times we played dolls,
Or how cool you became when I progressed to boys and shopping malls.
Learning how to shave and what makeup goes where,
Letting u doll me up and all the curls you put in my hair.
These are the things that I hold so tight,
These are the memories of when life was alright.
I wish I had your hand to hold today,
I wish that were possible somehow, some way.
The day you left changed everything I knew,
My heart was broken and every day was blue.
I have your memory that carries me thru,
A mother above all others couldn't be more true.
Happy Mother's Day from a time you'll never know,
Happy Mother's Day to a mother that I'll never let go.
