" A Midnight Rainbow "
" A Midnight Rainbow "

Doth thou from Antinopolis ?
A legendary Theos of time,
More exquisite than a beauty
More rhythmic than rhyme.

So innocent a smile
Without any guile,
Like a luminous moon
Nature's gentlest boon.

Like a rainbow after rain
May thy smile make me glee,
Hiding my amorous desire
Let me allow to walk with thee.

........ I dedicate these lines to my friend
A Midnight Walker.

It is very hard to pen about on something which is still a taboo in our society. More of that we still have hesitation and the fear of stigmatization of society. But the historical judgment of the honourable Supreme Court of India on 6th September, 2018 gave some rays of hope for the LGBT community and its supporters like me to venture and vocal for "Love is Love" which knows no division of age, gender, complexion, caste or creed.

In ancient Greek and in Roman culture there were plenty of examples of homosexuality. The French Revolution did bring so many changes in France including sodomy.

In 1950, the gay liberation movement ("Homophile Movement ")replaced by a new set of terminology such as gay, lesbian and bisexual. In the countries like Denmark, France, Netherlands, Sweden, U. K and in U. S. A various organizations were set up, demanding respect and equal rights for the people regardless gender identity.

In 1969, "Stonewall Movement " lead the LGBT liberation movement into a new dimension. Today LGBT pride events are held annually throughout the world toward the end of June to mark the Stonewall riots.

Literature plays an important part of LGBT rights. In ancient mythologies of Greek and later in Virgil's writings can be mentioned for examples. "The Monk ", "The Fatal Revenge ", " A Story of Pennsylvania ","The Immoralist ", "Death in Venice ", "Orlando", "The colours of Purple "and many more fantastic pieces did bring homosexuality in literature.

In India we had ancient painting, sculpture (Khajuraho), books ( "Kamasutra" : dedicated a complete chapter on erotic homosexual behavior, "The Arthasastra") vividly depicted the existence of homosexuality in ancient India. During medieval India the practice grew more common. It was the British criminalized the homosexual activities as against the order of nature by enforcing the 377 in 1861. In independent India Shakuntala Devi published "The First Study of Homosexuality in India " in 1977. In 2018 honourable Supreme Court of India gave a historical verdict of right to choose.

Besides a writer as a human being I always believe in equality and feel no shame to say that I do support LGBT rights though I am not belong to pride community.
