As time passes our experiences lay the foundation for our life's canvas
from the sad moments shouting at God for answers
to the celebrations upon being released from the clutches of cancer
see I too have stared down at my inner demons
demons so dark they had me believing happiness was not for me and
then I reflected on that very instance
me sitting in a wrecked car
arm trapped between the passenger door and the back seat face covered in blood
begging him to allow me to live at least one day more
to hug my daughter and engrave that memory so that it would forever be stored
