At Peace
It smells so different here
Not the usual scent of pinewood.
I can no longer hear the birds
Chirping along to the rustling leaves.

The sun doesn’t greet me
It doesn’t disrupt my sleep.
Is this what you meant by peace
If yes, can you take it back.

It looks like a hospital
A vacation house, that’s what you said
For years I have looked after you
Never finding the need to rest.

Sleep sounds like a distant word
Like my eyelids have forgotten
I cannot doze off without
You snoring in the other room.

I write because its the only way
I know letters are long forgone.
But an email to me is foreign
For you never had patience to teach.

All those questions asked
Those curious eyes looking up
Hard as they were
I made up stories to answer you.
The numerous times
You asked the same queries.
I always answered them differently
