IN CELEBRATION OF BEING HEARTLESS
I watched an infant crying in hunger
as he sucked his tiny little thumb.
Noticing not his cry I choose to ponder-
pondering where his mother is.
Unbothered, I watched him cry for an hour or two
and left, whistling my favourite song.

I watched a young man sitting on a corner
as he hits himself over and over again.
I'm sure he is filled with regrets-
having been born to this harsh world.
But what can I do when his fate decides?
I am never going to walk near him to ease his pain.

I watched an old man groaning on his bed
as his skinny body lay helplessly with him.
I don't know what is causing him pain
but I heard that aged men behave like children too.
I can never relate to his pain, not even once
but if I were in his shoes, I'd love me the way it hurts.
