A Letter Home, Battle of Bull Run
Dear mom, I write this with a heavy heart,
As of today I am your only son.
A war between brothers tore us apart,
As he and his enemy seemed as one.

Though he fell victim to his war alone,
A wound has marked me as well in my soul.
For I see now his fate had been homegrown,
I’m sorry if this does not help console.

His killer and he were in fact the same.
I blame this on the type of war he fought.
Alongside war I feel I am to blame.
This admittance is harder than I thought.

Now with no brother his war is my own,
But if I lose at least I’m not alone.
