Futility
#WritcoPoemChallenge
The tricolour unfurls in all its glory,
Dancing on the free winds,
Of a blue sky.

The fires died, with uncountable others
Who had battled last night,
Blood won freedom.

The proud billowing flag helped to clear the smoke,
Boasting power. New Order.
Wine flowed freely.

The people were happy, their bellies were full,
A new era begun,
Free from all strife.

One year later the flag had fell to half mast,
The New Order struggled,
To keep regime.

People whispered nostalgia about old days,
Anger began to rise.
Hope again died.

Once full bellies were famished again as the
New Order could not keep
The promise made.

Whispers increased, expanded to louder shouts,
Which soon curdled to screams.
Blood freely flowed.

How much time passed, nobody could truly say.
A New Order arose.
It's Flag unfurled...
