Deranged From Birth (chapter two)
Angus McBride chose to stand there looking down on the corpse,
a total waste of beauty, went and flashed across his thoughts.
He wondered to himself, did the killer feel remorse?
It didn't matter if they didn't, either way they're getting caught..

Forensics they were busy, dusting around the ground for clues,
so Angus had to wear these little bags on his shoes.
He could sense a storm brewing, it was affecting his mood,
metaphoric thunder crashing down from his boss who was rude..

See Angus was a policeman, that had always been his trade,
Scottish born and bred, on the streets of Edinburgh he'd played.
The son of Robert and Morag, who were sadly both now in a grave,
but Angus never went without because of everything they gave..

Following the footsteps of his father, he just had to be a cop,
and just like his father he was destined for the top.
His mother, bless her soul, spent her days working a lot,
often doing double shifts in her brothers flower shop..

Angus was a good kid, at school he was smart,
he excelled in all his subjects, and had a keen interest in art.
By sixteen he'd met Mairi, the only one to hold his heart,
and ever since their first kiss they'd never spent a day apart..

At twenty one they both got married, at twenty three his life was smashed,
when Angus found out that his parents were dead and that was that.
They'd been on a coach trip to Spain and were on their way back,
but the coach that they were travelling in was involved in a crash..

Angus slipped into depression and he started being lazy,
he found it tough at work because his grief would drive him crazy.
He struggled snapping out of it and that made him feel shady,
but life had changed when Mairi told him that she's carrying his baby..

They had a son called Archie and now he's three months old,
the love within this family warm enough to beat the cold.
Angus found himself again and he had taken a hold,
to him his wife and his child were more valuable than gold..

At twenty five they had left Edinburgh and moved into Fife,
to a town called Dunfermline which they both had thought was nice.
It wasn't as busy as the capital and helped provide a quiet life,
but for Angus at work, sometimes the crime rate was rife..

So back to the story and he's thinking about his boss,
the only person that he knew who had no other mood than cross.
The only person that he knew who was always mouthing off,
but Angus didn't even care today, he didn't give a toss.

He felt sadness for the victim lying there on the floor,
he thought about her family, and felt that sadness even more.
He thought about the officer with the unenviable chore,
of being the one to bring the devastating news to their door..

He didn't envy that at all but he vowed to catch her killer,
in the fight against crime he was regarded as a pillar.
Angus realised he'd stood so still, but he knew that she was stiller,
he watched as they took her body and knew they'd store it in the chiller..

So he went back to the station to get the investigation under way,
what was her name, and where had she been that day?
He bumped into his boss and felt the need to mentally pray,
but for once his boss had absolutely nothing to say..

He felt as sad as Angus that this life had been cut,
as short as it had, and he had a feeling in his gut.
That this wouldn't be the last one, that the numbers would stack up,
that they were dealing with a murderer who just didn't give a fuck..
