Invincible Summer
For all that lies against the truth
For all that flies, fleeting as youth

For all that is taken; and that which remains
For all that our fragile skin still contains

A heart beats in refrain
And stops sharply, in pain

Lost in seconds so carelessly tossed
Over shoulders, paid in bolder cost

Seasons tip, and are ripped away
As we, in a destined, distracted display

Take for granted the graceful grounds on which we lay
Yet the faithful enduring earth does not betray

Our steps, as trusting fools
Flighty and frivolous, ignorant of rules

Like gravity, or death, like we won't be left
So inevitably, so inexorably bereft

We waste away the precious in play
Yet treasuring it wouldn't make it stay

And that which holds us as if asleep
In trance, in blessed ignorance, over chasm deep

Is that denial of pain
The loss of those who remain

For as buds beautifully unfurl
Into bloom, so must petals curl

And rot in decay
Finally dusted away

And then in fertile grounds
A new sprout in green growth resounds

Is this how we all die
In that moment we realize, and cast down our eye

And then, are reborn when we forget
And bring forth the new, with no regret

This invincible summer within
That makes us bloom yet again
