This Dog of Mine
Curiosity with four small legs
And two dark eyes that shine.
A cold wet nose and pointed ears
Describes this dog of mine.

There’s mischief in his toothy grin,
His looks they seem to say,
‘If I do this, I wonder
Whether I can get my way’?

His ears prick up, ‘what’s that I hear?’
Alert for every sound.
He’s sure in every plastic bag
A new toy can be found.

It’s time for walk, with harness on
Trots proudly by my side.
We reach the field he’s free at last
Those big dogs better hide!

Afraid of none but fearful for
The wellbeing of me.
When back at home he settles down,
And curls up on my knee.

I can almost read his thoughts at times
When he’s lying on his chair.
As I peek round the kitchen door
He doesn’t know I‘m there,

‘When I pretend that I’m asleep
And put my paw like this,
I know it won’t be very long
Before I get a kiss!’

He really is adorable
And such good company,
I wouldn’t change him for the world,
Because he means so much to me.
