'I miss you' is a phrase
I find myself saying too often.
But I did- miss you.

it's the burden of regret resting
on my shoulders, talking
saying 'I could have loved you'.

When I wake up in the morning and I find myself with plenty of tea and no sugar,
I think of you.
When i'm watching the sun from above
the treeline
coffee warming my tongue,
my throat, my lips
leaving a half hearted smile

Missed opportunities.

and at night when I make down my bed,
how are you?
I count the 'what could have beens'
leaping around in my head
I missed you.
you ran right through me
I know.

As the stars drip from the sky
this regret gets heavy and harder to hold
you weren't mine to begin with
and I wasn't yours
So I curl up with a blanket
snug, beside a closed door

hoping,
dreaming
that one day it will reopen..

And I missed you.
