Lost in the Miles
Miles go by like the clock on the dash
Getting older by the mile, my life gone in a flash
How do I turn back the miles
My tool of trade isn't waiting for me at work
It is the tires that beat the road as it defiles
The road takes a beating, as it takes away moments in time
A dance macabre, who takes the lead in this waltz sublime
Not noticing the hairs on my face losing their hue
Maybe in this life I've bitten off more then I can chew
Hours pass as my mind it does wander
What could I have done, past decisions I ponder
Is it anxiety I feel not exiting as I park
Why does it always have to be so damn dark
Dark are the moments of regret as life is remembered
Mistakes in love, as my decisions become dismembered
Always thinking of what I could've done, and why I am alone
Always hoping it is her with the ringing of the phone
A smile does appear when it's one of my girls to say "hey Dad"
Washing away the stains of regret my mind once had
Reminding me of a heart deep on my chest
Knowing I made a few good decisions with an "I love you" as we depart
Maybe in the next life, I'll acknowledge this from the start
