The Price of The Ticket

Is Life Worth Living?
Even a hard life lived wisely can be valued
at a price that surpasses dollars and cents.
In this present day and age,
That precious life hangs in the balance
As it’s teetering on the edge of eternity,
For a mere sum of less than ten grand,
That precious life could be gone in an instant.

Last week,
I saw a guy robbed for his drugs and murdered.
His killer must have used up the dope,
Because today,
He hit the streets and killed his friend.

At spot valuation,
Thirty pieces of silver, today,
would be worth approximately
$91 to $440,
Which is crazy insane.
There has to be a more humane
approach to fleeing violence, poverty,
and oppression,
Something less profane.

The people look different,
but what the people do in this world
remains the same.
Prepare to be stabbed in the back,
If not shot, close range in the head,
by those you trust.
They just might kill you for some change.
You may not be old when you die,
Most are young,
As they leave this world in vain.
May they rest in peace,
We can't help but cry,
Their children and loved ones
must live with the pain.

As the ambulance arrives,
Other bystanders and myself walk away.
The victim’s child
holds his Father's head in his little arms
and wails,
bloodcurdling screams.

I asked a young, pallid guy,
‘Is Life worth living?’

I stood shell-shocked at his reply,
By the achromatic gaze
In His eyes!
Before He floated up into the evening sky,
His brittle lips, lipped,
‘How much will it cost me to die?’
