To some a curse and others a gift
Resting in the very core of one’s soul
A piece of a larger puzzle that is you

My name beats on your heart for eternity
Whispering my name in your ear, engraving it within your mind
Leaving me to dance on the tip of the earth
I’m the last one standing
Here before and after you
I wonder if you reopen my bruise, praying it never fades
To have me last longer within your consciousness
To run away from me is to run away from yourself
In your mind, i lurk in the shadows or wander in the light of day
I either showed you love or the lack of it,
real love, if i promised it,
or we had a good time for the thrill of it
A scent etches against your bones, undressing layers of sentiment
Subconsciously dedicating your ears to my presence
You thread my left-over weight through your nails, my touch lingering in the catacombs of your mind
So bewilder me with a sense that i was forgotten
But i know my essence will forever stain your tainted heart’s embrace
