Handmade Prisons
Walking out of the darkness, she squinted at the morning ray.
She breathed in the dewy air, filled herself with contentment.
The old voice kept telling her that not too long will this last.
She kept on breathing, kept on walking, chanting that she deserves this.
She hardly saw the darkness creeping up from behind her.
Filling the sky like rain clouds it came,
pulling her back to the dungeons of her sorrows.
Like holding sand in one's palm, she tried to hold on to her newfound bliss.
It oozed out from all gaps, leaving little behind; memories, feelings and heartbeats that counted.
She closed her fist to keep what's left and held it even closer.
Just before her eyelids met, she saw the sun ever so red.
She hoped for a new morrow where the darkness threatens her less.
