there's a tree outside your window
one that stretches all around
you've swung on her branches a thousand times
and landed firmly on the ground.
She has watched you grow as the years have passed
and you've seen her colours change
they fall and bloom as you do
seeming more magnificent every day.

telling him of her hopes for the boy
who sleeps in the bedroom to her right
she yearns a different life for you
he can't stay in one place
she stares down at his same old town
pleading for you to escape
she watches you envy the birds above you
you desire the freedom of their wings
she shakes her head and weeps for you
to realise it's simpler than you think:
although you don't have wings
there's no reason that you can't fleet

would give the earth for your two feet..
